Be Free

If you look at the Declaration of Independence it refers to the idea that “all men are created equal” and that they are “endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights” including “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Why do you get up in the morning? What motivates you to keep going? For most of us it is the idea of the freedom to create our lives, our existence in whatever way we choose. Making a good living, taking care of our families, and making a life in which we can enjoy our surroundings and our homes and being financially secure.

Some would refer to this as The American Dream – the promise of the possibility of prosperity and success. Our forefathers talked about this idea of the American Dream and our military heroes have helped us protect this great opportunity. We have holidays such as Memorial Day, Veterans Day and even Independence Day to remember those that have served and those who have given their lives for our country during military service.

When our brave men and women went off to war, what do you think was their motivation? Probably the idea of protecting what they had. Protecting their families, friends, homes, their work and the freedom that we all enjoy. Protecting the American Dream, not only themselves but for everyone else too.

The sad thing today is that these holidays are not always given the meaning and observance that it deserves. For many, they have become just a 3-day weekend to enjoy, but many don’t think about the real meaning. Ironically, we all get to enjoy this long weekend because of all our heroes who gave their lives and because of those who continue to serve.

As we enter into summer we want you to ask yourself what the phrase “be free” means to you. Once you’ve found your answer, LIVE IT. Take advantage of the opportunity given to you and pursue your dreams, however big or small.

The Retirement Guys will be continuing the BE FREE campaign all summer, and we would like to invite you to our bi-annual Economic Summit in which we will be discussing the “11 Steps To Financial Freedom.” We also want to invite you to the Wounded Warriors Amputee Softball Game at Fifth Third Field.
